CAMP CLASSICS, The Capitol Cinema
The Capitol Cinema, in Auckland’s Balmoral, has curated a short, remastered, cinematic sugar-rush of some of the campiest classics ever projected on the big screen. There’s Joan and Bette slugging it out in ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane’? There’s an overly-made-up, former Oscar-Winning actress, torching her career in one OTT performance in ‘Mommie Dearest’ (’No wire hangerrrrrs’!!!). There’s a former femme-fatale film siren gone ‘cobby-cuddlers’ wearing suburban serial-killer in ’Serial Mom’. And the final Everest Base-Camp of ’Showgirls’ - a film that has garnered a strange and unexpected resurgence (‘I chipped my tooth on a Quualude’). Dress up, pitch camp, have fun! This November.
